Members of CompCog

The CompCog network connects experts of animal cognition and behaviour and representatives of other disciplines ranging from philosophy and social sciences to robotics.

The researchers (and laboratories) were chosen to represent

  • all major groups of animals (social insects, different species of birds and mammals, humans),

  • different fields of social cognition and behaviour (e.g. social learning, attachment),

  • applied as well as theoretical approaches (e.g. ethologists, psychologists, veterinarians),

and

  • different levels of biological organisation (genetics, neurophysiology, behaviour)

The network of these laboratories offers various facilities for collaborating scientists ranging from natural study sites with habituated, wild living animals to captive animal keeping facilities in zoos or research institutes through testing labs and databases of families with children or dogs volunteering for experiments.

Communication across all these different fields and disciplines is challenging. What makes CompCog an extraordinary organisation is exactly the fact that the participants are ready to work on a common language in order to inform each other.
